Sustainability management and reporting
research focus

Sustainability management and reporting are becoming increasingly important for companies, politicians and society. Driven by regulatory developments, changing stakeholder expectations and global sustainability goals, the subject area has grown considerably in recent years.

Von Ahsen's research interest lies on the one hand in the implementation of these requirements and regulations in corporate practice. Publications and practice-oriented articles examine how companies recognize the issues relevant to them, develop sustainability strategies, establish key performance indicator systems and design their reporting in a way that is appropriate for the target audience. In addition, the interactions between reporting obligations, internal management instruments and value creation are analyzed.

As part of interdisciplinary research projects, the use of artificial intelligence in sustainability management and reporting as well as possibilities for automated and audit-proof data collection for a product carbon footprint are being investigated.

Apl.-Prof. was also involved in the now completed interdisciplinary joint project SWIVT (Siedlungsbausteine für bestehende Wohnquartiere – Impulse zur Vernetzung energieeffizienter Technologien), which was awarded the Prize for Sustainability & Interdisciplinarity 2025 by the Vereinigung von Freunden der Technischen Universität zu Darmstadt e.V. (Association of Friends of the Technical University of Darmstadt).
